There’s more to life than waking up each day, dreading what’s coming.
Matthew Pappas, CLC, CPNLP
I used to be filled with anxiety, every single day of my life. It affected my relationships, my health, my family, my job, you name it. I managed to keep it a secret however. Nobody knew because I hid it, suffering in silence against something that I didn’t understand and just did not want to deal with.
Sound familiar?…Or perhaps you know that anxiety is ruling your life, your family and friends can see it, but you haven’t been able to figure out how to beat it. Perhaps that kind of freeing feeling seems more like a pipe dream than anything else. You’ve tried to figure it out but nothing worked like you hoped it would, and you’ve resigned yourself to thinking that “you’ll always be this way”.
So you continue on, feeling down, ashamed, and disheartened as anxiety continues to steal your joy, take your power, and zap your energy away. Talk about not a fun way to live! There’s got to be a better way!
When You Think of Anxiety, What Comes to Mind?
What if you could change all that?
If you’re like me, you’ve probably tried all sorts of things to help with your anxiety; books, videos, courses, anything and everything that promised you if you did what they said, you’d feel better.
Yep that was me, but not until I spent years denying I even had problems with anxiety. I used to think it was no big deal, and that I could handle it.
Little I realize just how much it was affecting every aspect of my life. In fact, all those check marks listed up there, every one of them applied to me, but refused to seek help. Maybe it was because I was supposed to be able to handle it, or I didn’t want to seem weak, or just because I didn’t want to take the time to deal with it.
It wasn’t until I worked with a coach, and found an approach that worked for me, that I realized just how much anxiety was holding me back in every day life. Others close to me could see it, but I couldn’t for the longest time.
See, the key is to understand what anxiety is and what it is not. Learn it’s tricks and strategies, the way it uses your vulnerabilities against you, and then take that knowledge and use it to your advantage to take back the control that anxiety has had on you for so long; maybe your entire life.
Matt made it easy. His relaxed demeanour made him easy to talk to and his patience was appreciated. He made me feel heard and validated. He gave me hope. He provided a listening ear and posed questions that helped me reflect and find the answers within myself.
I am grateful for the coaching I received from Matt at Beyond Your Past and I can see the outcome of our time together making a difference in my life.” Lynn S.
Matt is a spiritual and emotional example and guide for people who have been hurt in this life. Tirelessly creating podcasts, videos and blogs inviting people to see the world in a new way- letting go of anxiety, PTSD and victimhood that have caused them too much suffering.
He’s walked the walk and so it’s easy to take his talk in. A gifted speaker and writer, Matt is above all kind hearted and committed to the service of healing. I love collaborating with Matt.Jodi Aman
How is my approach different?
I believe there is no cookie cutter approach to beating anxiety. For every success story using one method, there are countless others who’ve tried that same strategy and found that it just didn’t work for them.
It doesn’t mean the strategy was bad, it just means that enough of it didn’t resonate with you to latch on and run with it…and hey, that’s ok!
I’ve taken the best of several proven, tested, strategies and tools, using several modalities, and put them together so that you benefit from the best of the best that each has to offer. That’s what worked for me, and it just might work for you too?!
Let’s be honest though, it takes dedication on your part. A desire to finally feel better, so much so that you’re willing to put in the effort that it takes to see results.
Are you Sick and Tired of Anxiety having it’s way with you? Enough to make some changes?
if you are…
You’ve just taken the first step!
I remember talking with my good friend and amazing anxiety tamer, Jodi Aman, about how the very grip that anxiety has, is based on lies and tricks. It uses our vulnerability, our self-perceived weaknesses, and past events to bring up a host of self-defeating mindsets that serve only steal our joy, hold us back, and keep us from experiencing what life has to offer. That kind of information was absolutely life changing for me, suddenly so much began to make sense.
It will try to make you believe that you aren’t worthy of anything, that you can’t trust your own judgment, that you are crazy, and that you should just suffer in silence and isolation.
Think of it as a scale; when anxiety is in full force and we feel helpless, the scales are tipped in its favor. But, when you start to understand just what’s going on, and where it’s coming from, you immediately begin to tip the scales back in your favor! If you have power, anxiety does not.
When you start your journey of overcoming anxiety, one of the first things we talk about is; the power to beat it is already inside you. Yes, I said that…take a minute for it to sink in. Even if you’re shaking your head right now and saying to yourself, “I have no power to beat it”…trust me when I say that you do! It’s there, but anxiety itself has caused you believe yet another lie…that you are helpless.
You are not helpless my friend, you are powerful and you are resilient.
The very fact that you are waking up each day and doing the best that you can, is a testament to your resiliency. Sure it’s not easy, and maybe you’re just barely getting by most days, but it doesn’t have to be that way forever. Overwhelming anxiety is not a life sentence.
Let’s see where you are right now in life, and understand how the past plays into that, and begin working towards an empowering feeling of waking up each day knowing that you can handle whatever comes, rather than dreading it. To realize that the joy and contentment you want and deserve is there…ready and waiting for you!
Frequently Asked Questions
What strategies & modalities do you use?
When I started working on my anxiety, I found that after reading many books, watching videos, and trying different programs, I wasn’t able to grasp the idea that there is one all encompassing, “end all be all”, perfect way to beat anxiety.
I knew that were were likely going to be parts of many programs that I could embrace and make work for me, so that’s why my course is a compilation of that knowledge and those programs. It includes aspects of:
- Techniques from NLP (neuro linguistic programming).
- Neuroscience and how the anxiety starts in the brain. Including understanding the SNP and PSN as they relate to anxiety.
- Learning to build new healthy, positive pathways and how your brain can be retrained.
- Additional Skills and Insight I’ve learned and use from some of well known anxiety experts (with their blessing of course).
Are you a trauma informed coach?
The short answer is Yes, I am trauma informed. As a survivor myself, of childhood sexual abuse, narcissistic abuse, and bullying, I’m keenly aware of the struggles that come with being a survivor, well into adulthood.
In addition I’ve researched and studied with some top trauma informed experts including licensed clinicians and certified coaches.
You don’t have to be a survivor to work with me, but for those clients that are trauma survivors, you can rest assured knowing that our time together will always consist of understanding and working through the effects of trauma as they relate to anxiety and your every day life.
What is coaching like with you?
Coaching is a very personal experience. It’s an investment in yourself, and that is something that I take very seriously. This is completely, 100% about You.
Each week as we work through the program and discuss things that come up in your life, we will work together to find the best possible solutions that fit your life and feel authentic to who you truly are.
It is my job to make sure that you are always encouraged, supported, and validated along this journey. I will provide a safe place for you to share what’s on your mind, and always be fully present during our time together.
I will always be completely honest with you in all aspects of our coaching time together.
All of our conversations and communications are kept strictly confidential.
I can also provide weekly check in emails or texts, to help you stay on track with your goals, and follow up on the most recent sessions. This is never meant to be intrusive or “bug” you, but rather it’s a way for us to always stay in communication with each other and for you to feel supported.
It’s a “come as you are, just as you are” environment that is safe and judgment free.
In short, coaching is all about you. You’ll get out of it what you put into it, and I’ll be here with you every step of the way.
How quickly can I expect to see results?
That’s the million dollar question right there! The answer is not as clear cut as we would like it to be. That’s the honest truth.
Typically when you work with a coach, you can begin to see preliminary results in the first month of working together, and more as time goes on.
However that greatly depends on the areas and struggles you want to work through, the time and dedication that you put into it both during and outside of our calls together each week, as well as additional support you have around you, and other factors.
In a nutshell, working with a coach is designed to give you results in a very timely manner, but each person is different and heals in their own way.
Are you also a therapist?
No, I am not a therapist, and coaching is not therapy. Although the two do share some similarities, I’ll defer to the great Tony Robbins for a brief explanation.
The fundamentals of life coaching are what distinguish it from therapy. Life coaches do not diagnose, while therapists determine illnesses and pathologies so they can be clinically treated. Therapists analyze their client’s past as a tool for understanding present behaviors, whereas life coaches simply identify and describe current problematic behaviors so the client can work to modify them. In other words, therapists focus on “why” and coaches work on “how.”
Therapists help clients explore and understand their subconscious and unconscious mind. Their goal in this exploration is deep understanding. Life coaches focus on results and actions. Their goals can be measured with key performance indicators and specific behavioral outcomes and goals.
Therapy and life coaching do share certain traits and aims, however. Both therapists and life coaches work to enable clients to make positive changes in their lives and become more productive. While therapists do diagnose and treat from a healthcare perspective, not all therapy clients are ill; many healthy people seek the services of both therapists and life coaches.
What is anxiety coaching anyway?
Anxiety is something that affects people all over the world. In fact, a recent study shows that 1 in 13 people across the entire planet suffer from some type of anxiety on a regular basis.
As an anxiety coach, I’m here to help you understand just what exactly anxiety is trying to do in your life. We’ll uncover and expose the lies and tricks that it uses to keep you stuck, to keep you down, isolated, depressed, and living in fear. We’ll see what’s happening in your daily, and examine events from the past to get the real story of what’s going on and why you feel the way that you do.
We’ll work together to uncover the strength already inside you and equip you with the knowledge and skills that you can use every day to take your life back and free yourself from the grip of anxiety.
There is hope, and it’s not as difficult as you might think.
Still Not Sure?
Send me an email with your thoughts, concerns, or questions. I’ll respond back, usually within 24 hours or so. Allow me to validate what’s on your mind and share with you in an honest, up front way how working on your anxiety using my methods might be just the ticket to taking control of your anxiety, once and for all.
